Raw Vegan: Strawberry Smoothie

By Opal Tribble • Jan 16th, 2008 • Category: The Raw, What's Cooking/Uncooking?

A few days ago my daughter asked for a “yummie fruit smoothie” I happily made one of her favorite smoothies. It takes less than three minutes. I usually make this in large batches. My daughter drinks as much as she wants throughout the day. It was easy to make and a healthier choice than most of the sugary drinks you find on the market today and unlike those drinks that are high on calories but devoid of nutrition this drink covers all the bases nutrition. My first meals and my last meal of the day is some type of liquid. My diet is about 80% raw vegan.

if you are looking for a way to jump start your day try this delicious raw fruit smoothie.

Banana, Strawberry & Nori Smoothie

  • 3 cups apple juice (juiced or 100% apple juice)
  • 1 cup strawberries
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 sheet of raw nori ground
  • 2 tablespoons of freshly ground raw cashews

Directions

  1. Add apple juice to a blender
  2. Add the remaining ingredients
  3. Blend until smooth
  4. Serve and enjoy

Nori is a seaweed and is loaded with nutrients that our body needs including trace minerals we normally don’t find in other foods. My daughter loves nori and snacks on it throughout the day. I’ve found that adding cashews to my smoothies adds richness and additional flavor to the drink. Occasionally I’ll add nutmeg. This is a truly delicious drink and doesn’t last long in our household.
