Green Energy Drink, Raw Vegan
By Opal Tribble • Dec 1st, 2007 • Category: Juicing & Smoothie Recipes, The Raw, Vegan, Vegetarian, What's Cooking/Uncooking?
The past few weeks I’ve been upping my intake of greens by including them in my smoothies. They are naturally high in fiber. I add about two cups of organic greens to 4-6 cups of raw apple juice. In doing this I’m insuring that I’m getting a healthy supply of nutrients in my system while also kicking up the amount of fiber needs to effectively flush my system of waste materials.
Green Energy Drink
- 4 cups apple juice
- 1 cup grapes
- 2 cups rhubarb (or other greens like lettuce, kale, or collards)
- 1″ ginger root
*If you don’t like yours thick add more apple juice.
Directions
- In a blender add all ingredients
- Blend until smooth
- Drink and enjoy
This is one of the numerous high energy drinks I make throughout the week. It’s all natural, sweet, and it’s good for you. I naturally have a lot of energy but this drink makes me sore. I stopped taking supplementations years ago simply because they weren’t as effective as the juices and smoothies that I make. I work out almost every day and my energy level is the same as it was before my workout. I owe a lot of that to the fact that my boty is able to use most of the nutrients that I supply it with because it is easily digestible thanks to my whole foods diet.

Hmmm. Rhubarb? Ginger? Very interesting. I would not have thought to put those together. But I would like to try it sometime.

I’m going to give that a try. It sounds like it would taste great, and I sometimes need a little boost after lunch.
It took 4 stores before I found some rhubarb. LOL! I made a batch, and I like it! Mine’s a little thick, but I think it is because my blender is a little crap.
teeni,
It’s a great combination. I’ll experiment with almost anything.
Dragon Lady,
Hey I’m glad you had a chance to check it out for yourself and I’m happy that you like it. I always make mine thick I keep forgetting to mention that in my recipes, lol. I updated this recipe to include that. It’s a great way to add greens to your diet at times I don’t have the time so drinking one of these smoothies is a great alternative.

Thanks for the recipe! I think I’ll give it a go this weekend. I always try to find new ways of including organic greens in my diet!

Hi Opal…what kind of apple juice do you use? Do you make your own using fresh apples or do you buy the juice? Also what is your take on any added sugars like honey or xylitol or stevia? Do you add any of these to your juices? Thanks…
This looks rather interesting - I have not tried to make my own yet, even though I run into recipes on the Internet all the time, but I do like the ones in the store that get to be so expensive if you drink them on a regular basis …
Jenny Wilde,
You are welcome. I make numerous variations of the green drink. The past few days I’ve been upping my intake of greens (mainly kale) so I’ve been incorporating those withing my smoothies.
Sherri,
I usually make my own apple juice however the times I do purchase it. I buy organic unsweetened apple juice. I always toss in at least two regular apples to the blender. I don’t add any sweeteners to the juice but if you feel you need to try one of the natural sweeteners like stevia or agave nectar. I’ve been consuming an all raw diet for the past few years even though I ate healthy, as a whole food vegan, before. I did notice that my taste buds have changed even more. I can tell more of the natural flavors found in my produce so I don’t season them too much.
Drug Abuse Treatment,
Give it a try it will save you money and you don’t have to go out to purchase it. The only thing you need to purchase is the produce.
Looks good when you see the list of ingredients, but must it be green? I just can’t see myself drinking anything green!
Don’t let green scare you, intervention … “green foods” are among those that are the best for you!
Now all you need is a shot of coffee in there.
I would definitely try this out since I’m drinking lots of apple juice everyday instead of taking food supplements like you.
I’ll have to try this out. I usually just put fruit in my smoothies, I’ve never tried veggies. Sounds good though, I like rhubarb.
Wow, I never would have thought to put rhubarb in a smoothie. I thought that parts of rhubarb were poisonous? Is this an old wives tale?? It must not be because your still alive to share this recipe! Thanks for sharing.
Hi the juice tastes great I tried it personally and felt that it can be served in the parties too. Especially the ingredients are awesome. Keep up the good work. Thanks a lot.
